Jean Chamoux (né en 1925) est un photographe français.
Il a commencé sa carrière pendant la guerre, dans le maquis savoyard. Le parachutage du plateau des Glières (1er août 1944) a constitué son premier reportage. Installé en 1947, il a été très actif à Paris jusque dans les années 1980, et a réalisé notamment de nombreux reportages en France et au Moyen-Orient, notamment pour le compte de l'ambassade d'Égypte à Paris. S'il a également travaillé auprès de Robert Doisneau, Édouard Boubat, il est resté très discret et n’a exposé qu’une fois, en proche banlieue.
Il a néanmoins mis en portrait, à leur domicile personnel, des figures aussi diverses que Blaise Cendrars, Jean Cocteau, Lino Ventura, Habib Bourguiba ou Madame René Coty, et était reconnu comme photographe de premier plan dans la mode et l'industrie. En particulier, il a été un des premiers à pratiquer largement la photographie en couleurs, en grand format (4" x 5" et 13x18), et le premier à la développer lui-même à Paris (système Ektachrome E3).
Cette compétence technique, alors encore peu répandue, doublée d'une maîtrise des photos "à trucs" et techniques (effets de stroboscope par surimpression, éclairages à grande échelle par rampes de flashes) a contribué à son succès dans la presse et dans l'industrie (EDF, Ribet-Desjardins, L'Oréal, Formica, Synergie…).

Jean Chamoux is a French photographer who was born in 1925 and started his career during World War II in the Savoyard bush. He first covered the landings by parachute (1st August 1944) during the Battle of Glières.
He settled in Paris in 1947 and worked actively until the 1980s. He did a number of coverages in France and in the Middle East, and for the embassy of Egypt in Paris. Although he worked together with Robert Doisneau and Edouard Boubat in particular, he has always remained very discreet and has only exhibited his works once in the near suburbs of Paris.
He nevertheless took photographs of such various figures as Blaise Cendrars, Jean Cocteau, Paul Fort, Lino Ventura, Habib Bourguiba or Madame René Coty in their homes, and was regarded as a first rank photographer in fashion and industry. More particularly he was one of the first to take coloured photographs on a wide scale and in big format print (4"x 5" and 5"x17"m) and the first to process his proper colour films in Paris (Ektachrome E3).
This technical skill - rather unusual at the time - coupled with an ability to carry out special tricks and effects (stroboscopic effect through multiple exposure, use of electric lighting on a large scale with flash ramps) has contributed to his success in the press and industry (EDF, Ribet-Desjardins, L'Oréal, Formica, Synergie ...).
